WGL Skills Programs

The WHS Varsity Girls Lacrosse Program offer additional programs to our youth players.

• Middle School High Level Lax

• Grades 5-8th Advance Lacrosse Skills

• Pre-season skills training

Middle School High Level Lax

​

• This program is offered to those who have played at lesat one season on an FGLL Select team (or similar).

• This program focuses on advanced topics and situations that use the following:  

  • Demonstrating field sense in live situations 

  • Transitional situation tactics

  • Working with various offense & defense schemes

  • Playing under pressure 

  • Exhibiting off-ball skills and tactics in settled and unsettled play 

• Concepts used at the high school and collegiate levels which will give advanced players tools to continue to push their games forward on their club and Select teams. 

• This program is not for those players who are still developing stick skills and basic lacrosse skills.

Grades 5-8 Advanced Lax Skills

​

• This program is offered to those players in 5th - 8th grade who are looking to further develop their lacrosse skills.

  • This program focuses on the following:

    • Lots of touches on the ball to further develop and enhance consistent use of both hands.

    • Focus on stick skills and techniques used in game situations.

    • Playing under pressure 

    • Exhibiting off-ball skills and tactics in settled and unsettled play 

    • Transitional situation tactics

• This program is designed to help elevate current player’s lacrosse skills and game IQ.

• This program is not for those players who are still developing stick skills and basic lacrosse skills.

Pre-Season Skills Training

This program is perfect for those excited to start the spring season!

Currently offered to Grades 3/4, 5/6 & 7/8.

• Grades 3/4:

  • This is the first grade group where girls can travel and play competitively in the Founders League.

  • Focus on stick skills, ground balls and will teach game and rules.

    • Restraining line, teamwork and communication.

• Grades 5/6:

  • This is the first grade group where girls play full field with all positions.

  • Focus on stick skills, ground balls and will teach game and rules.

    • Restraining line, shooting space, 3 seconds defense violation, etc.

• Grades 7/8:

  • Building on 5/6 grade level play, 7/8 is the first grade group where girls play with modified checking!

  • Focus on stick skills, ground balls and game IQ!

    • Focus on off-ball play, using cuts, picks and dodges.

    • Focus on the importance of footwork and defensive strategies.
